Abstract

It is not always possible to establish, by means of interrogation, the history of the specific chancre; sometimes, the patients themselves deny this possibility, resisting to accept it for reasons linked to deep-rooted prejudices that the physician is obliged to respect. It is therefore not surprising that the high percentages of positive antecedents reported by the various authors sometimes diverge considerably. Thus, for example, one of the first statistics, that of Fournier, tells us that in 50 % of the cases the history of chancroid is positive.
