Popular beliefs on maternal health and the main healthcare model

“Popular beliefs and practices about pregnancy and childbirth: a focus on health-disease process”, is a research developed at Preventive and Social Medicine Department, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de la República.
This article is a preliminary framework and a discussion about healthcare system as a whole and its hegemonic conceptions, in particular about maternal healthcare policies, and how it take in account beliefs and practices of female users. In this specific case, the discussion focuses on the definition and relevance of an approach on health beliefs and practices of pregnant women, characterization of the healthcare model in Uruguay and the relationship of it with the beliefs of this population.
