From the beginning of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata the City of Buenos Aires grew as a commercial and administrative center so it began to attract immigrants from different regions. After the fall of the Viceroyalty the City of Buenos Aires will be characterized by political instability and a permanent condition of war that will be reflected in demographic its and socioeconomic structure. In this complicated context immigrants became an element of vital contribution to the urban economy. They replaced the population who had been absorbed by the wars.
