Abstract

In this article, we analyze the issue of increasing precarity in the world of work in the light of Brazilian Ruy Mauro Marini’s theses and the concept of super-exploitation of labor. Forged in the domain of a Marxist theory of dependency, the concept was originally formulated to designate the specific regime of Latin American social formations. In this respect, we first analyze certain global trends in the world of work and then turn to transformations in the regimes of labor super-exploitation in dependent countries, as well as its contemporary emergence as a phenomenon in central capitalist countries. Finally, we analyze the category’s validity and centrality, as well as its implications for an adequate understanding of politics and the new morphologies of the working class in Latin America and the world.
