Abstract

The idea of nation, as many scholars have pointed out, is being challenged in the context of globalization. The cultural and the visual turn can give us some clues to identify and to understand how images have participated both in the process of nations’ construction as well as in their current redefinition. Aiming to identify other modes of understanding border lines we will analyze the artistic proposals of four contemporary artists- Jean René (JR), Alejandro Iñarritu, Josh Begley and Francis Alÿs. On the one hand, we will analyze, the images themselves assuming that images have the potentiality to understanding and being in the world in different ways; on the other hand, the effects of images´ digital circulation on looking.
