El cinturón verde de Córdoba como factor clave para la soberanía alimentaria y el Derecho a la Ciudad

Abstract

The green belts in the cities include border areas where agriculture is practiced for the purpose of supplying fresh food in proximity to the population that inhabits the cities. In the city of Córdoba (Argentina) the green belt includes lands that are located towards the periphery. With the processes of agriculture and urban transformation, especially the conversion to soybeans and the advancement of the real estate market in different areas of the peri-urban zone, this green belt is in an imminent process of reduction of surface area and number of families that are dedicated to this type of production.This article describes the current situation (2019) of the green belt and highlights its importance in the supply of fresh food for the population. To this end, it is proposed to reflect on various dimensions of food production, distribution and consumption from the perspective of food sovereignty. Which proposes, among other things, local food production, respecting the culture of the communities. The right to the city of the habitants of the cities is linked to the origin and quality of the food that they consume. Proposals were developed that seek the support of peri-urban agriculture, highlighting the importance of the green belt territory of Córdoba and its farmers for food sovereignty as an unattainable dimension for the right to the city.
