Resumo

Arab presence in Mexico dates back from over a century and nowadays,
Mexican community of meso-oriental origin is totally inserted in the
political, economic, artistic or social processes of the country.
However, a study of Arab immigration in Mexico is not simple at all.
Data provided by the Mexican Secretary of Government are not
trustworthy.National censuses are incomplete and they were
conscientously made after the Mexican revolution. Recording of
immigrants began to be done systematically only after 1926. In spite
of all these difficulties, this happens to be the only written essay which
is directly based on the cards issued by the Secretary for the recording
of foreigners.
Despite these limitations, our research has the merit of being the first
one to be made on the grounds of official information but it has been
compared with different estimates made by several immigrants or with
may be incomplete censuses , but any way it gives us a clear picture of
the general process.
