The purpose of this study is to characterize the first industrial manifestations of the formation of the working class and the entrepreneurial group in the city of Córdoba in the period 1880-1906. The changes in local production and the composition of the population are analyzed in order to recognize the transformations in the occupational structure of the productive sectors as a result of the installation of industries. Two empirical cases are examined to contrast the general hypothesis: one refers to an industrial company – “Fábrica de Calzados Farga Hnos.” – and another on a trade union organization – the “Sociedad de Resistencia de Obreros Zapateros, Armadores y Anexos”. The composition of the different classes, their organizations and relationships are analyzed, resorting to censuses and period reports, newspapers and state policies oriented towards their sector. The native origin of the Cordovan working class is highlighted in order to discuss the historiographic interpretation of the workers' organization and awareness as a consequence of European immigration, based on the reality centered on the cases of Buenos Aires or the Litoral.
