Abstract

La enfermedad cardiovascular ateroesclerótica
sigue siendo el mayor problema de salud en la
población adulta, destacando el infarto del miocardio
(IAM) como su principal manifestación.
Desde que se hizo evidente que el IAM y otras
manifestaciones de la enfermedad coronaria no
obedecían a una etiología precisa, pero que se
relacionaban con diversas características, respondiendo
a un modelo causal multifactorial,
donde interviene variables fisiológicas, bioquímicas,
y sociales entre otras, el estudio de los factores
de riesgo (FR) y su eventual modificación,
se ha transformado en la herramienta principal
para intentar prevenir el problema y disminuir la
morbimortalidad cardiovascular
