Abstract

Premature mortality is the most severe medical consequence of any illness. Traditionally, cardiovascular diseases and neoplastic diseases have been considered the fatal conditions, while rheumatic diseases have been considered non-fatal for both the medical community and patients. However, most rheumatic diseases have a natural history of premature mortality.
