Safe and Family-centered Maternity (SFCM) constitutes a paradigm shift in perinatal care. Locate the woman, her family and the newborn (NB) as the true protagonists of the experience of pregnancy, childbirth and birth respecting their rights. Its implementation covers 10 steps, which include the different stages in the care of the pregnant woman, the mother and the NB. Step 6 refers to Residences for Mothers (RM) whose purpose is to provide accommodation for high-risk pregnant women and mothers of premature or sick NB who remain hospitalized in the Neonatology Service after obstetric discharge, avoiding separation of the mother - son / daughter binomial. Therefore our objective was to analyze the results of the implementation of Step 6 in 4 hospitals with maternity.
A restrospective, descriptive cross-sectional study was accomplished. The universe was pregnant women and mothers in the four RM of Capital and Interior, during 2018, whose data were collected through admission forms, nutrition and quality surveys. The variables under study were: age, place of origin, days of permanence, food rations dispensed (in quantity and quality) and perception of the
care received from those responsible for RM (voluntary and / or administrative).
In 2018, 1307 women were accommodated: 391 at the Maternal and Neonatal Hospital, 461 at the Maternal Provincial Hospital, 157 at the Misericordia Hospital and 298 at the Lubenky House in Rio IV. 71% were from the interior, 28% of Capital and 13% s / d, with a variable permanence according to the pathology. Food rations were dispensed for all women. Results of quality surveys: Excellent 53%; Very good 37%; Good 6% and N / C 4%.
This study shows that RMs are meeting places for pregnant women, mothers and health teams, where support, containment and support is provided. Institutional volunteering is very important, carrying out health prevention and promotion activities. To this are added University extension projects that work on aspects related to rights, based on an agreement with the School of Nursing of the FCM.UNC
