Clasificación de la fibromialgia: ¿existen distintos tipos de pacientes?

Resumen

La fibromialgia (FM) es una de las enfermedades que con más frecuencia provoca dolor crónico en la población general. Debido a la gran heterogeneidad en su expresión clínica y a la falta de instrumentos estandarizados para ordenar y clasificar los distintos síntomas y presentaciones clínicas, el disponer de una clasificación de los pacientes con FM nos permitirá identificar grupos de pacientes más homogéneos, candidatos por tanto a recibir unas pautas diagnósticas y terapéuticas más individualizadas. Para poder clasificar correctamente a un paciente con FM, recomendamos una evaluación diagnóstica individualizada por parte de un equipo mutidisciplinario, compuesto por el médico de familia, el reumatólogo/especialista en enfermedades autoinmunes, el traumatólogo y el psicólogo/psiquiatra. El diagnóstico de cada uno de estos especialistas, así como el análisis en la relación temporal de la aparición de los distintos síntomas o procesos, resulta imprescindible para evaluar el subgrupo de FM al que pertenece el paciente.
