Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death in both developed and most developing countries. Aim: To identify imaging findings on mammography and ultrasound (presentation form, lesion size) and their histopathological analysis with corresponding immunohistochemistry in women over 70 years of age.
A descriptive, retrospective study was conducted based on the reports and images of mammograms, ultrasounds, and histopathological studies performed at our hospital over a period of 9 months.
A total of 39 female patients diagnosed with breast cancer were analyzed, with an age range of 70 to 83 years. The nodule was the most common radiological finding, while invasive ductal carcinoma, molecular subtype (Luminal A), was the most frequent histopathological characteristic.
Patients aged 70 years and older with breast cancer do not have a pathognomonic radiological form of presentation. However, nodules with a suspicious malignant appearance are the most frequently found lesions. Until new evidence from studies specifically targeting this population becomes available, medical judgment along with patient preferences will be the key guide to determining the appropriate time to end screening, as well as the treatment approach, based on tumor characteristics and comorbidities in each case.
