Abstract

The sand layers are often used as foundation beds for different types of structures. In Córdoba city, predominantly wind
origin silts and alluvial sands are common soils in geotechnical profiles.
The soil behavior, particularly coarse-grained soils like sands, is strongly influenced by the particles morphology and grain
sizes distribution, expressed by the interaction between the particles. This paper presents a characterization of some sands
from Córdoba City. The analysis considered highly developed urban areas and groups with similar characteristics were
formed, the groups were designated: General Paz, Central, Colorada and Ayacucho. In laboratory tests for classification and
grain sizes distribution were conducted, together with a
morphological analysis of particles by micrographs.
