Abstract

This paper aims to recognize the level of graphical information’s level of processing that reached Physics stu-dents at University. The study covers the influence of Cartesian graphs and the content represented. Pencil and paper tasks were specially designed: one suitable for “Vibrators and Waves” unit and another for “Polarization” unit. The results show that students were familiar with the Cartesian graphs and that they acceded to the level of the explicit and implicit information without major difficulties. On the other hand, the processing of conceptual information was less frequent and was strongly influenced by the content represented. It should be taken into account when guiding teaching activities.
