Abstract

This article is the result of part of an investigation project in education, developed in classes of Biology in a secondary school. During the research, it could be noticed that in class, together with verbal language, other semiotic systems appear: mimicry, gestures and different vicarious objects; for example, models, posters, photographs, drawings. It is essential to consider them if communication effectiveness in the class is to be analyzed, since teachers usually explain metonymically by executing actions, associating the name or the description of the objects with their appearance in the field of reality and relating words to facts. However, this paper only refers to how the kinetic and verbal language can be convergent or divergent in the construction of meaning in Biology classes.
