This article is a reflection on the topics that are relevant to the attainment of the “Millennium Development Goals”. The reflection aims at going beyond the descriptive aspects and is centered upon the research on health conditions in an era of social tragedy as the main “object” which in turn may lead, from new epistemological horizons, to consider the paradoxes and impoverishments that the “subject” of knowledge undergo.
The keys to the creation of a liberating paradigm in the health sciences are proposed, in order to build capabilities in public health.
