Heritability and coefficients of phenotypic and genetic variation of agronomic traits in triticale (Triticosecale Wittmack)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Field experiments were carried out to determine coefficients of phenotypic and genotypic variation, and heritability in broad sense of the agronomic traits in the offspring of two triticale crosses. Coefficients of phenotypic and genotypic variation show variability in lines. Highest value was for spikes/plant, and lowest for plant height and spikelets/spike. Plant height and spike length showed high heritability, tillers/plant, spikelets/spike, kernels/spike, and fertility index showed middle values, and spikes/plant showed low heritability. Reductions of plant height could be easily obtained by means of visual methods. Low values for spikes/plant indicate that this character needs intensive selection or the application of other breeding methods.
