Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the abundance of the leaf-miner Liriomyza huidobrensis (Diptera: Agromyzidae) and to analyze its parasitic complex (Hymenoptera: Parasitica) in broad bean crops (Vicia faba) in Córdoba, Argentina. The empirical evidence showed that the fly appeared in the crop from the fourth week, and reached its highest density after the tenth week, with records of approximately 100% mined leaflets and up to 15 larvae per leaflet. Thirteen parasitoid species were recorded, belonging to four families. Species richness was directly related to host density in the crop. Larval-pupal parasitoids caused higher percentage parasitism than larval ones. Such parasitism was directly related with the number of species involved. Opius scabriventris was the dominant species along the studied period, representing 51.6% of the accumulated parasitism.
