Abstract

A technique for plant regeneration from nodal segments of Aloysia polystachia (Gris) Mold. is described. Explants containing 1–3 axillary buds were regenerated into plantlets when aseptically cultured on 1/4-strength Murashige and Skoog medium (plus 0.5 % sucrose), semisolid and devoid of hormones. The experimental conditions were 27 ± 2 °C and a 14-hour photoperiod (10 W/m²). The best explants were those with three axillary buds. Regenerated plantlets were successfully transferred to pots with a survival rate of more than 80 %.
