Evaluation of some reproductive parameters in Criollo goats

Abstract
Fourteen goats and 14 young goats of regional genotype or "Criollas" were studied to evaluate the reproductive behavior of goats in semi-intensive systems and to determine the influence of nutritional level and age of mating over fertility (F), prolificity (P), and labor intervals (IEP). Twenty eight animals were randomly divided into two groups of 14, with 7 goats and 7 young goats each. The following treatments were assigned: AT (control adult goat), AS (supplemented adult goat), JT (control young goats), JS (supplemented young goat). All animals grazed over natural spring-summer pasture. The AS and JS groups were supplementary fed with 800 grams alfalfa hay and 200 grams corn grain / mother / day, during mating period and at the beginning and end of lactation. After evaluating the heat appearance and the mating along the year, the F, P, and IEP rates / percentages were measured. Results proved that there was significant statistical difference (P < 0.05) in the F percentages between treatments AS and JS with respect to AT and JT. Significant differences (P < 0.05) were also found when analyzing the age combined with low nutritional levels over the goats' F and P.
