The collection very clearly reveals the authors' concern with the dimension of the present that imposes itself on the historian's craft. “To formulate the problems correctly, to even get an idea of them, a first condition had to be fulfilled: observe, analyze today's landscape. Because only it gives the perspectives of the whole from which it was essential to start” (Bloch, 2002, p. 67). Questions made to the past reflect the context of authoritarianism; the attack on the educational field and on science; the contempt for gender and ethnic-racial issues, and the weakening of proposals for Latin American integration. A context identified by many as dystopia, that is, an environment in which one lives in a condition of oppression, despair and deprivation.
