Doctor en Física (1992) por el Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas (CBPF/CNPq). Rector de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (2013-2016). Decano de la Facultad de Matemática, Astronomía, Física y Computación de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (2011-2013). Profesor Titular Dedicación Exclusiva de la Facultad de Matemática, Astronomía y Física de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. Investigador Principal de la Carrera del Investigador del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET). Fue presidente de la Asociación Física Argentina. Integrante del Directorio del CONICET. Coordinador General de la Conferencia Regional de Educación Superior de América Latina y el Caribe (CRES) 2018.
