Pablo Latapí Sarre is considered a pioneer of educational research in Mexico and Latin America. Doctor in philosophy, with a specialization in educational sciences, from the University of Hamburg, Germany, upon returning to his country in 1963, he created and directed the Center for Educational Studies (CEE) for 10 years. At that time, there was only the Pedagogical Research Center in Mexico, which was part of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and focused mainly on the creation of psychometric tests. Latapí conceived of education as an interdisciplinary field that should be investigated from multiple perspectives, with scientific rigor and objectivity. Which does not imply value neutrality, but on the contrary, it implies an ethical commitment to educational and social justice. From a humanistic perspective, he put knowledge at the service of a transformation of the Mexican educational system, always concerned with banishing racism and exclusion, promoting literacy for young people and adults, vulnerable sectors, indigenous peoples and encouraging the social commitment of the university.
