Abstract

On October 3 of this year the Nobel Assembly of the Karolinska Institute jointly awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize in Medicine to Bruce A. Beutler and Jules A. Hoffman in recognition of their discoveries about the activation of innate immunity. Beutler and Jules A. Hoffman in recognition of their discoveries about the activation of innate immunity, and Ralph M. Steinman for his discovery of dendritic cells and their role in adaptive immunity.
