Abstract

The interview with Diego Fonti provides us with a look at anguish from the field of philosophy, taking Kierkeggard, Heidegger and Sartre, suggesting that these authors share the idea that anguish presents itself in the face of different aspects of having to choose. He also proposes that the experience of anguish refers to a non-object and links this to Lacan's notion of object a, tying anguish to desire. He proposes that the discourse of science seeks to cover up anguish but thinks of religion as an attempt to make sense of it and considers the mystics as those who lived in the light of lack as opposed to modern society, which seeks to cover up lack.
