Resumo

A Doença Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) foi reconhecida como pandemia em 11 de março de 2020 pela Organização Mundial da Saúde. Devido à sua recente aparição, ainda não sabemos todas as possíveis sequelas da pandemia no sistema auditivo e vestibular, mas um cenário claro começou a surgir no caso de pacientes adultos. Esta breve revisão descreverá os efeitos mais relevantes do COVID-19 nos sistemas auditivo e vestibular, sua associação com o estresse, ansiedade e depressão, e seu impacto no sistema nervoso e na saúde mental desses pacientes. A análise dos dados relatados até agora sugere que 8-10% dos individuos infectados com o vírus COVID-19 sofrerá perda auditiva, tontura e/ou vertigem em algum momento durante o curso de sua doença, e um adicional de 15-20% se desenvolverá (ou verá um agravamento em sintomas anteriores de) zumbido e seus transtornos de saúde mental associados, como estresse, ansiedade, depressão, insônia e irritabilidade. Não está descartado, no entanto, que mais e novos problemas associados ao COVID-19 serão descritos em um futuro próximo.
