Osteoartrite vertebral anterior em uma população contemporânea (La Plata, Argentina)

As chamadas patologias osteoartríticas englobam um conjunto de processos crônicos, inflamatórios e degenerativos, muito frequentes nas populações contemporâneas, para os quais a idade, o sexo, a predisposição genética, o trauma, a obesidade e as atividades laborais/esportivas têm sido propostos como fatores desencadeantes. O objetivo de nosso trabalho foi estabelecer a prevalência de osteoartrite vertebral anterior (AVA) em uma população urbana contemporânea e sua relação com a idade e o sexo dos indivíduos. Analisamos 95 esqueletos (45 homens e 50 mulheres), pertencentes à Coleção Lambre (La Plata, Argentina). Para o diagnóstico da patologia, foram estudados: a) labiação, b) geração de tecido ósseo, c) porosidade nas superfícies articulares, d) osteófitos verticais maiores que 2 mm e e) eburnação. Os resultados mostraram 84,21% de indivíduos afetados, sem diferenças entre os sexos. Sessenta por cento tinham VAA na área cervical, 76,8% na área torácica e 74,7% na área lombar. Naqueles com menos de 50 anos de idade, 53,85% foram afetados, uma porcentagem significativamente menor do que a encontrada nas faixas etárias de 51 a 70 anos e de 70 anos ou mais (93,02% e 100%, respectivamente). Com o envelhecimento, a gravidade das lesões aumenta significativamente. Esses resultados confirmam a alta prevalência da patologia em nossa população, a baixa implicação do sexo como fator desencadeante e a relação direta entre a condição e o processo de envelhecimento.
